CHANDIGARH:
Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the most sought after player at the mock
IPL auction conducted by the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) students as part of their annual fest, "Goonj 2013."
"Kolkata Knight Riders" won the bid at Rs 7.5 crore. The mock IPL auction, which was incorporated in the fest on popular demand, focused on honing students' managerial skills.
The "auction" was conducted in a small room with eight teams from various colleges acting as "bidders."
Team selection was done through a quiz based on cricket and IPL. The working money at which all the IPL teams presented their bids was fixed at was Rs 40 crore. Although students did not have any real money, the event helped check students' ability to make judicious use of money and marketing skills.
Results showed batsmen were preferred over bowlers. The teams checked the previous records and made a database of each cricketer, making bids accordingly. Sivesh, a UIET student and member of the winning team said, "It was a very interesting event and we used our previous knowledge about the IPL to win the event. We had already made a list of the best performers in the previous IPLs and made bids on them. It was a nice experience as it gave the feel of the whole IPL auction process." The winning team got a cash prize of Rs 3,500.
